The Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies

Arts & Culture | Martha Myers Scholarship Fund

Dance has always thrived at LIMS. Deeply moved by the talent, dedication, and spirit of the LIMS faculty and students, friends of dancer/choreographer Martha Myers have generously endowed us with an bi-annual scholarship in Martha's name.

The Martha Myers Scholarship was established in 2003 at the occasion of LIMS 25th Anniversary. The MM/LIMS scholarship intends to award a young choreographer, who demonstrates a high degree of commitment, talent and ability in movement and who wants to deepen awareness and knowledge of movement.  The scholarship facilitates his/her access to the LIMS Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies. LIMS complements the scholarship by offering performing opportunities, rehearsal space, and professional mentorship by senior CMAs. Since then, the scholarship was awarded to CMA choreographers Tina Louise Vasquez, Sandra Chung and Lucy Yim.

The student/choreographer who receives the MM/LIMS scholarship must commit to develop a new dance piece during the year; to maintain a clear record of the choreographic process; to maintain a high quality performance as a LIMS Certification Program student; to attend all the mentorship meetings; to premiere the dance piece at the occasion of Mosaic, or at another LIMS event, at the discretion of the institute leadership.

LIMS has been deeply appreciative of the generosity bestowed upon us by all donors and thanks them for remembering our institution and its students.
