The focus of the BARTENIEFF WORKSHOP : "Motivate and Activate!" is to learn the basic principles and to experience the transformative power of the BF, a BODY RE-EDUCATION APPROACH developed by Irmgard Bartenieff (1900 – 1981) that focuses on the psychophysical connectivity to facilitate efficiency and expressivity in movement, and its application to diverse areas of interest.
Concepts covered in the BARTENIEFF WORKSHOP include: Dynamic Alignment, Developmental Patterning, Breath Support, Core Support, Center of Weight and Weight
Shift, Initiation and Sequencing, Spatial Intent, Effort
Intent, and the Rotary Factors.
The course includes historical background, the theoretical frameworks of BF (an introduction to the work of Rudolf
Laban, in which context the work of I. Bartenieff evolved),
and emphasizes movement experiences and applications
of BF.
The material will be introduced through movement exploration, observation, readings, group discussions, and movement assignments as both a methodology for experiencing,
observing, and describing the fundamental aspects of body connectivity and as a means of identifying personal movement preferences.
