Trisha Bauman CMA, Paris-based, dances with some of Europe's most celebrated choreographers, including Alain Buffard, Herman Diephuis, Mathilde Monnier and Daniel Larrieu, and in New York with choreographers RoseAnne Spradlin and Vicky Shick. A certified practitioner in Body-Mind Centering®, she is on the faculty of Moving On Center's SomAction Movement Therapy Training (NYC) and teaches dance at Trisha Brown Studio (NYC), PARTS/Rosas (Brussels), Impulstanz Festival (Vienna), Tseh Dance Festival (Moscow) and for the companies of Sasha Waltz (Berlin), Angelin Preljocaj and Philippe Decoufle (France).
Michaela A. Bosshard CMA is a dancer and choreographer as well as yoga teacher with private practice, Michaela came to LIMS® in 2000 and has since worked at the Institute both as a faculty and staff member. Michaela enjoys the opportunity of continuous process and growth of the LMA and BF material so close at hand.
Karen Kohn Bradley CMA is a LIMS® Certified Movement Analyst, and is currently the Director of Graduate Studies in Dance at the University of Maryland, College Park. She studies the nonverbal and movement behaviors of political leaders, coaches actors and dancers, writes, directs, and choreographs politically oriented performance pieces, choreographs for theatre, and researches and writes about dance education issues. She was featured in a Malcolm Gladwell article in the New Yorker as one of the most "prominent movement analysts" of the US. She completed a book on Rudolf Laban as a twentieth-century performance practitioner, which will be published by Routledge in September, 2008.
John Chanik CMA, CTT has been on the faculty of the Yearlong, Intensive and Modular formats of the LIMS® Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies since 1991. Currently he also maintains a private practice in therapeutic fitness, movement coaching and Connective Tissue Therapy. John has worked with many different client populations from the elderly to dancers on a wide range of issues from maintaining a high level of function to managing chronic injuries and body conditions. John teaches for Moving on Center's Somatic Movement Therapy Training program in NYC. John worked for seven years at Dr. Richard Bachrach's Center for Osteopathic Medicine with patients in neuromuscular patterning and re-education. John has taught in Connective Tissue Therapy training programs given by Theresa Lamb, has been a movement specialist at the Sports Training Institute in New York City, taught dance in NYC public schools, and has been a guest instructor in movement for actors at Boston University. John has an extensive background in ballet and modern dance and holds a BFA from the University of Utah. John is also an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, gardening, biking and backpacking.
Cheryl Clark CMA has been teaching dance and movement for actors since 1993. She has been teaching in the LIMS® Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies since 2003. She was certified as a Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner in 2002. She has been applying LMA in a variety of applications, dance, movement for actors, and voice. She has taught workshops both in the US and abroad. She maintains a private practice integrating Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, and Body-Mind Centering. Past teaching affiliations include: School for Film and Television, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, Shakespeare Theater of NJ (also choreographer) and American Opera Theater.
Ted Erhardt MA, CMA 1985, ADTR has applied LMA in 3 contexts. He has taught the material at LIMS® and at universities and colleges for 21 years. Currently, he is on the faculty of Pratt Institute where he teaches LMA and Clinical Diagnosis in their Creative Arts Therapy program. He has been an observer in nonverbal research studies in forensic science and psychiatric medicine with Dr. Martha Davis. He has been a dance therapist in acute inpatient psychiatric units at Woodhull Hospital since 1988. His work is featured in a new film about Dance Therapy produced by the New York State Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association.
Ellen Goldman, CMA is a founding member of the Laban Institute, and has taught Laban Movement Analysis for many years, Ellen also studied Body-Mind™ Centering, is practitioner of The Action Profile® System, and is certified in the Kestenberg Movement Profile. She has published As Others See Us: Body Movement and the Art of Successful Communication, which addresses Integrated Movement (the basis of the Action Profile® Assessment). Research with Dr. Kestenberg is now published in Geometry of Movement, Parts 1 and 2 with accompanying DVDs. She has worked with management teams and recruitment, has develop presentations on cross-cultural style analysis based on KMP rhythms, and training material on Effort Phrase-writing. Ellen has been a guest lecturer and teacher at many universities, including Cooper Union, NYU, York University, Trinity and Baruch College. She has conducted seminars in Italy, Holland, England, Brazil, South Africa and Canada.
Jackie Hand, MA (University of Oregon), BFA (Ohio State University), CMA, Connective Tissue Therapist, RMT, Certified teacher in Labanotation, Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB), NJ certified in Massage, Bodywork and Somatic Therapy, has taught ballet, modern dance and Laban Movement Analysis for many years. She has been on the dance faculties at Emory University in
Atlanta and at Gettysburg College in PA and served on the Certification Program Faculty at LIMS® for 15 years. She returned to the Certification faculty in joining the ’05 Weekend Program after a 2 year hiatus. She has also taught LMA/BF at New York University, Teacher’s College at Columbia University, in Berlin, Germany, Budapest, Hungary and at Bates Dance Festival. She was a co-chair of LIMS® Education Committee and is currently on LIMS® Special Programs faculty and will be teaching in LIMS® Certification Program Modules I and II in summer 2008 in NYC. She has a private practice in Connective Tissue Therapy and Movement Re-education and is a CranioSacral Therapy assistant for the Upledger Institute.
Mariangela Lopez CMA and Certified Yoga Teacher. She is part of Women at Work,
directed by Gina Gibney where she teaches Creative Movement and Body Awareness to victims of domestic violence in shelters and different institutions. She teaches composition and improvisation at Washington Irving High School. As a Yoga teacher she teaches at Elevation Yoga, NYC. After she studied at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, she discovered her greatest passion, creating pieces involving different people from her community inspired by Laban’s concept of Movement Choirs. Mariangela has presented her choreographic work in Venezuela, Mexico, Boston and NYC including Williamsburg Arts Nexus, Galapagos, Movement Research Performance Series at the Judson Church, Dixon Place and P.S 122 Performance Space. Mariangela is the founder/director of Accidental Movement Theatre, a platform for performers and collaborators to create multidisciplinary performing art pieces. She is a member of Gina Gibney Dance and performs as a solo improviser/choreographer with Klaresque Studio, directed by Ernesto Klar.
Amy Matthews CMA, SME, RYT, RSMT/RSME has been teaching movement since 1994. She is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst and a Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner. Amy has been on the faculty of the Yearlong Certificate Program at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies since 2000, and co-teaches the Embodied Developmental Movement and Yoga program in NYC and the Embodied Anatomy and Yoga program in Berkeley, CA for the School for Body-Mind Centering®. She teaches Embodied Asana® classes and workshops at Movements Afoot, as part of the Advanced Studies Program at the Breathing Project, and at the Society for Martial Arts Instruction. She has taught embodied anatomy and movement workshops for programs in New York, Philadelphia, Berkeley, CA, Nebraska, Toronto and Tokyo, Japan. Amy also works privately as a movement therapist, integrating Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, yoga and Body Mind Centering®. Amy is certified as a yoga teacher by Heart of Yoga and Yoga Union, is registered with ISMETA and Yoga Alliance, and is certified as a Motherhand Shiatsu practitioner. She has studied kinesthetic anatomy with Irene Dowd, yoga with Mark Whitwell, Alison West and Kevin Gardiner, and karate with Sensei Michelle Gay.
Alyson Nehren MA, DTR, CMA, RSMT/E is an ADTA Registered Dance Movement Therapist, LIMS® Certified Laban Movement Analyst and Bartenieff Fundamentals Practitioner and ISMETA Registered Somatic Movement Therapist/Educator. Alyson has taught LMA/BF on the Graduate level at Columbia College Chicago and Goldsmiths College-University of London. As faculty at Laban London she utilized LMA and Bartenieff in teaching Experiential Anatomy, Anatomy and Physiology, and in rehabilitating injured dancers. She has additionally taught for Instytut DMT Warsaw Poland, in Cadrezzate, Italy and worked with children with special needs. Her post-Cert studies include Somatic Psychology with Linda Hartley, BMC™ and the Kestenberg Movement Profile. Alyson has performed with Janet Gillespie & Present Company, the Chicago Moving Company and Robin Lakes Rough Dance among others. Cited by the Joseph Jefferson committee for best choreography in Chicago non-equity theater, she has additionally choreographed for film, fashion and female impersonators. A Board member of the NYSADTA, she is Newsletter Co-editor and on the Film Committee producing Moving Stories: Portraits of Dance Movement Therapy.
Karen Studd, holds an MA in Dance from University of Oregon (1983) and a CMA,
Certified Movement Analyst from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute’s Seattle Program
(1987). In addition Karen is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist (RSMT) and
Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME). For twenty years she has taught in the Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies Certification Programs across the United States and in Canada. She has served as a LIMS® Program Coordinator at the University of Maryland and is currently a Program Coordinator for the LIMS® Modular Programs in New York City. Internationally, she has taught the Laban/Bartenieff work in workshops in Krakow, Poland, the International Summer Dance Festival, in Poznan, Poland and has presented papers and given workshops in Brazil and Bratislava. Karen has taught in the Dance Departments of the University of Oregon, the University of Wisconsin, George Washington University and George Mason, where she is a tenured dance faculty member. A teacher of dance technique, experiential anatomy, composition and a choreographer, she is focused on adult education and personal development through movement. Although she came to the Laban work through the art of dance, Karen sees herself as movement educator, and dance as a highly specialized area of application within the larger body of knowledge that is movement itself. Her interest is in the understanding of the importance of human movement across all disciplines. She has been recently active in the observation of movement of political pundits and has been interviewed by the Washington Post newspaper and on television’s Hard Ball commentary with Chris Mathews.
Kristin Tanzer is an interdisciplinary theatre-maker and director/choreographer. She has been creating original theatre for ensembles since 1994. Tanzer is currently the director for, and co-founder/artistic director of Exhibit A Performance Group. Dedicated to investigating the meaning and significance of movement within a theatrical context, Exhibit A bends, blends and blurs the boundaries between theatre, movement and dance. Tanzer is also the director of Pop Up Performance—an ongoing series of site-specific movement inquiries exploring the relationship between movement, the body and the environment, as well as the permeable line between spectator and performer. From 1996-2005 Tanzer served as the co-Artistic Director of Collision Theory, an award winning performance company that created and produced image-saturated physical theatre. In addition to her work at LIMS®, Tanzer teaches movement for actors, and is on faculty at the New Actors Workshop, a two-year theatre conservatory. She has given lectures and workshops at New York University/Gallatin School, Towson University, and the School for Film and Television. She has also taught various forms of performance within the New York public school system with particular interest in classes for special needs students.
Rachelle Palnick Tsachor CMA, RSMT, ABMP teaches Movement for Performers to musicians, dancers and actors at the University of Iowa. She earned her B.F.A. in Dance at the Juilliard School, her Masters in Dance Research and Reconstruction at City College, her Reconstructor and Advanced Notator training with the DNB and is currently completing certification in the Alexander Technique. She has given Laban-based workshops in such diverse areas as Optimal Performance, Non-Verbal Communication, Kinesiology, Movement notations, Physical Characterization and Early Dance & Period Movement. Rachelle practices Movement Therapy and Education in Iowa City working with artists and those recuperating from pain and chronic conditions.
Aynsley Vandenbroucke CMA has been on the faculty at LIMS® since 2004. She is a choreographer who divides her time between New York City and the Catskill Mountains where she co-founded and directs Mount Tremper Arts, an arts center with a focus on dance and photography. Her company, Aynsley Vandenbroucke Movement Group, has performed in New York at Dixon Place, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Dance Conversations at the Flea, Lincoln Center Institute's Clark Studio Theater, the Brooklyn Museum and the Dancenow/NYC festival. They have also performed internationally in Brazil at the Centro Coreografico do Rio and in San Francisco at the Patricia Sweetow Gallery. Aynsley studied on scholarship, graduating in 1999, at North Carolina School of the Arts where she was nominated for the Princess Grace Award. She spent summers on grants and scholarships at the Cunningham Studio, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, and ImpulsTanz in Vienna. Her work is influenced by her current practices of Zen Buddhism and Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms and she is passionate about the role of movement in every aspect of our lives!
2008 Guest Faculty: Esther Geiger CMA has been intertwining LMA and yoga since 1980, when she began studying Iyengar Yoga with John Schumacher and enrolled in the Graduate Program in Liberal Studies at Wesleyan University, majoring in Movement. She has been a faculty member, as well as the administrator, at Unity Woods Yoga Center in the Washington DC area for the past twenty years. She has assisted in LIMS® Certification Programs housed at the University of Maryland, and is the organizer of the Washington Area CMAs (WACMA), a continuing education and networking resource for CMAs in the DC area. Esther has also applied LMA to playground design, personnel administration, and audio description for dance (making dance performances accessible to people with visual impairments).
2008 Guest Faculty: Susan Gingrasso CMA, LOD Certification Specialist Awarded the 2006 Outstanding Dance Educator Award in Higher Education by the National Dance Education Organization in recognition of her ability to build relationships among disciplines and develop student-centered dance education, she built a very successful undergraduate dance major program at UWSP. She uses LOD and LMA to revitalize the pedagogy of dance technique, building a firm foundation for learners to embody the movement vocabulary and concepts, and develop dance literacy. Her action-research studies show that students readily develop deep learning structures that enable them to make rapid progress in both technique and artistry. She has presented this research at the NDEO, ICKL, the Carnegie Colloquium, and the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She teaches LOD Workshops and Certification courses and has assisted with the LIMS® Modular Certification Program in NYC.
