LIMS® Yearlong Certification Program-New York City

The Yearlong format is ideal for students wishing to immerse themselves in the Laban and Bartenieff material in a full-time program. You will acquire a clear, comprehensive movement language that can be applied to a multitude of disciplines, sharpen your observation skills, enrich your research practices, and develop techniques for enhancing movement efficiency and expressivity. The structure of the program is well suited to students living in or commuting to New York City. Note also that the Laban/Bartenieff Institute is authorized to admit international students to the Yearlong Certification Program under the F-1 student visa category. Successful completion of this exciting and rigorous course awards the title of Certified Movement Analyst (CMA).

Format: half-day sessions, four days per week

LIMS® Modular Certification Program In NYC & Maryland

Module I: Immersion
In Module I, you will become acquainted with the fundamental categories of the Laban system, explore your movement possibilities according to your own body uniqueness and begin perceiving the power of LMA as applied to your field of interest. Classes include theory and movement experientials and are accessible to students from all disciplines. This exciting and rigorous course serves as the first of four Modules within the LIMS® Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies, which awards the Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) title. Alternatively, Module I may be taken independently as a short-course.

Place: New York City
Time: M-F 9am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm, Sunday TBA

Module II: Concentration
In Module II students will be immersed in Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) Theory, Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF), Movement Observation and Seminar in LMA history and application. This course consists of students who have successfully completed Module I of the Modular Certification program. Students will subsequently need to complete Module III and IV and a Final Certification Project before receiving the title Certified Movement Analyst (CMA).

Dates: January 3-19, 2011
Place: Maryland, University of Maryland at College Park
Time: M-F 9am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm
            (No Class on Sunday January 9th, but classes will be held January 15 and 16)
Pre-requisites: successful completion of Module I

Module III: Depth
Module III will continue the exploration of Space Harmony using the theories and principles at play in Transverse movement within the Icosahedron. Laban's A and B Scales will be studied in depth with focus on Phrasing and Shape Flow Support during Transverse movement.
Students will gain greater understanding of their own personal movement choices and further develop their skills in observing the functional and expressive movement of others.  Students will crystallize their understanding and integration of the over-arching LMA themes and the principles of Bartenieff Fundamentals. Students will gain greater facility with the verbal and Motif vocabularies used in Laban Movement Analysis in preparation for their Final Project proposals.

Module IV: Review and Project
This Module consists of students currently enrolled in the 2008-2010 Modular Certification program. Additionally, LIMS® is pleased to introduce a new way to resume LMA/BF studies and fulfill your CMA followed by completion of a Certification Project. Former students who began but did not complete their Final Certification Project, those persons having 20 or more years of documented teaching experience with the LMA/BF material but have not been enrolled in a LIMS® Certification Program, or have a minimum 400 documented hours of LMA/BF training with a CMA outside of a Certification Program may apply to Module IV.

Date: January 3-19, 2011
Place: Maryland, University of Maryland at College Park
Time: M-F 9am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm
            (No Class on Sunday January 9th, but classes will be held January 15 and 16)

LIMS®  Modular Weekend Certification Program-- Maryland

The Modular Weekend Program at the University of Maryland  begins with Module I which includes six weekends of moving, observing, understanding and transforming yourself! begin the journey towards certification; this Module is one of four, plus a thesis-level project, but can be taken as a stand-alone experience.  Faculty includes: Karen Studd (GMU), Karen Bradley (UMD), Laura Cox, Lynn Adelmann, and a talented roster of CMAs from the MD-DC areas, plus special guests.  YOU have been thinking about studying LMA/BF more deeply for a while.  This is the time...  For a more detailed description of the Modular program see LIMS® Modular Program--NYC above.

Format: Weekends
Dates:  Module I: September 11-12, 2010; October 2-3, 2010; October 30-31; November 13-14, 2010; December 11-12, 2010 and January 15-16, 2011.  Modules II, III and IV to be determined.
